This is my selfie module reflection! I definitely did a lot of soul-searching when I tried to decide how to tackle the selfie module. I definitely had an intellectually good time learning about the selfie and especially doing extra research on snapchat filters and snapchat selfies! It was really interesting to learn how Snapchat is pushing the plastic surgery/white/unrealistic beauty standards thing and it’s super disheartening. I really like using snapchat filters and I’ve always known that they make me look better, but the way that they lighten skin tones and enhance certain features is disappointing. It also makes me upset that I never realized the things that the filters did on their own until I read articles on them. It’s interesting to me that these filters haven’t caused more controversy. I’m not sure I’ll boycott snapchat filters, but it’s good to know about the different things Snapchat filters do to my image when I use them. I’m really thankful that I learned so much about how selfies have progressed and learned more about how I perceive the definition of selfies aka selfies taken via snapchat with and without filters. It’s been a very good learning experience and I’m thankful that I decided to take on snapchat as my selfie module focus. It’s been a really good learning experience and I’m thankful for the time spent on this module. If you’d like to learn more about what I did during the module, check out my last blog post! Signing off… Courtney.
